Setting the facts straight

With regard to your front- page story (“Canine calamity”, 08/11), I would just like to put things straight from my perspective. Until recently I would take my dog to that park every morning. My dog ran around with the group of dogs that meets there every day. The park is great, the surrounding streets are quiet, and they had great fun in the mornings. I have since moved out of the area, but in all the time I took my dog to the park, there was never a leash in sight. As the group of people and their dogs live across the road from the park, they all just run over and play in the park.

Running after people on bicycles is not unheard of (it is something dogs do). As it happens, I know the person who was attacked. I know that he was definitely attacked by the dog – it is not just an allegation. He sustained quite serious injuries.

I also know that had the men been more sympathetic and checked if he was okay (which he was not), and if they had offered to drive him to the hospital and pay for his medical costs, this whole situation would have been different. While severely cut and bleeding, Mr Agagu had to ride to the hospital on his bicycle. Furthermore, Mr Stadler said he would go and see Mr Agagu on the Friday night in question, but he failed to arrive, even though Mr Agagu waited for him. Mr Stadler only went the following day, apologising after the fact.

So some of the information in your article is a bit slanted and untrue.
