A FIRST of its kind drive-through open day for future Grade 7 learners will be hosted by Daniel Pienaar Technical High School on its campus on Saturday morning.

“The Tiger’s bow tie is ready to show what the school has to offer. The wind might have hampered our previous open day, but we are excited and hopeful that all will go according to plan. This time the wind is in our favour,” said Kola du Toit, principal of Daniel Pienaar THS in Uitenhage.

Winds reaching gale-force scale swept throught Uitenhage two weeks ago, resulting in DP’s debut drive-through open day to be postponed and scheduled for Saturday, July 25 from 09:00 to 11:00. The long term weather forecast on Tuesday showed that Saturday’s conditions will be all good with a light to gentle breeze and temperatures reaching the high twenties.

“An interesting route, showcasing Daniel Pienaar’s various workshops (of which the doors will be open), sporting codes including archery and motor sport, achievements, technology exhibitions, campus layout, gymnasium, hostels as well as some true Tiger style fun activities will all be part of the open day.

“Visitors and future Grade 7 learners, in the comfort of their own vehicles, are invited to participate in the drive-through open day at the campus. They will have to remain in their vehicles, but can stop at the various points of interest where educators and learners will be present to inform them and answer any questions they might have.”

There will be information pamphlets available as well as coffee-on-the go and some nice treats to eat.

The open day and all activities will be done in line with the COVID-19 health and safety regulations. All learners and educators will wear face masks and observe a two-metre social distancing policy. It is expected of all visitors also to adhere to the COVID-19 regulations.

The DP drive-through open day entrance is at the main gate in Protea Street with the exit at Tierkopkraal.

“We have beautified the DP campus with various flags and all. So, please come and visit and see what South Africa’s oldest technical school has to offer,” said Du Toit.
