WARD 48 councillor Tyrone Adams has been in regular communication with shop owners in John Street, Uitenhage to curb the illegal dumping and he has attributed the overflowing of a drain to old infrastructure which needs to be replaced soon.

In a bid to stop the illegal dumping and overflowing of a drain in John Street in Uitenhage, Ward 48 councillor Tyrone Adams said he has been in regular communication with shop owners.

According to him the pile up of refuse is a major problem.

He said foreign shop owners are not paying for municipal services, so it is up to them to take refuse to the transfer station, but they have failed to do so.

“I had several meetings with them, and I even involved the officials from public health. In three meetings with them they mentioned that they were committed to taking their refuse to the transfer station,” said Adams.

He further said it is obvious that they are dumping again in John Street and Market Street.

“If it happens again, I will once again involve the officials, but if there is still a continuation of illegal dumping, the officials must do what they are supposed to be doing,” said Adams.

In connection with the sewer blockage in John Street, Adams said it is obvious that the infrastructure is not maintained properly.

“A day after the drain is fixed, it blocks again. We need to remove the old infrastructure as a matter of urgency,” said Adams.
