Campaign gets community fit and aware

The Bultfontein Social Crime Prevention Unit in partnership with the Department of Correctional Services, Department of Health, Youth Desk, Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit (FCS), Electoral Commission (IEC), Municipal Traffic, Community Policing Forum (CPF) and the Muslim community embarked on an awareness campaign at the Phahameng community hall in Bultfontein on Wednesday, 3 April.

The initiative was done under Const. Lebogang Kotwana and Const. Nku Mbatha. The campaign started at 06:00 with a 3 km fun walk and aerobics.

“The aim was to distract the kids from committing crime and to encourage a healthy lifestyle.

The community, especially the youth, took part in all the activities and later were taught about tuberculosis and the symptoms and dangers thereof.

The aerobics were led by Sgt Nthabiseng Mokake of the Bultfontein Crime Prevention Unit.

The station commander of Bultfontein, Lt Col Makhotso Motsoeli, also took part in the aerobics,” said Const. Kethabile Mofokeng from the Welkom Police Cluster.

Motsoeli addressed residents about drug and alcohol abuse, street robberies, reinforcing their houses to avoid house robberies and burglaries.

Residents were encouraged not to buy stolen property as this is a criminal offence, and to report criminal acts to the police.

Motsoeli further encouraged residents to report domestic violence and to report the rape of minors, even if the suspect is a relative.

“Thank you to the community for working with the police to reduce crime.

Many of the recent arrests emanates from information shared by the community.
