Equipment benefits centre
The Morning Star Children’s Centre in Welkom was one of the recipients of the Telkom Group Employee Adopt-a-Project Programme in 2018. The centre was selected for this programme by the Telkom Foundation. They received R100?000 to use towards acquiring Information and Communications Technology (ICT) equipment. Attending the launch are from the left Jowa Mooko (Telkom Foundation), Selometsi Raiile (Telkom), Catherine Tlali (Telkom) and Joan Adams (general manager of the Morning Star Children’s Centre).

The Telkom Foundation selected the Morning Star Children’s Centre in Welkom as one of the recipients of their annual Telkom Group Employee Adopt-a-Project Programme.

The foundation granted R100 000 to the centre, specifically earmarked for Information and Communications Technology (ICT) equipment.

The centre has so far acquired three flat screen television sets, and five new computers have been purchased for the benefit of both the children and staff.

“The ICT equipment still envisaged for Morning Star will be finalised at a meeting between the local Telkom Foundation representatives and the Morning Star management team,” says Joan Adams, general manager of Morning Star.

On 24 August, the Telkom Foundation’s official launch of the project and the handing over of the equipment took place at Morning Star’s Welkom Centre.

Gallant Roberts, the Telkom Foundation’s representative, and Jowa Mooko, local project leader, officiated the ceremony, stressing the need for the business community to be involved in community service and, in this way, give back to deserving recipients

“There was a heart-touching message from one of the parents and a learner, Prosper Orukwem, detailing how the Telkom Foundation’s donations will really benefit the children at the centre.”

Adams concluded the proceedings with a word of thanks and invited guests, children and staff to enjoy a braai in the gardens.
