Man missing days after robbery

Ten days after his home was robbed by two armed men, a shift boss employed by Phakisa Mine near Odendaalsrus, has gone missing.

Fernando Paulino Mungoi (56) reported for work on Monday, 29 October, and visited his girlfriend later that day. At about 17:30 he left for home and was never seen again.

On 19 October Mungoi was the victim of a house robbery. Two unknown African men entered his home in Kalkuil Village, Odendaalsrus, and demanded of Mungoi’s 21-year-old son that they wanted to see his father.

They apparently said Mungoi had taken R200 000 belonging to them.

They held the young man at gunpoint and took a white Toyota Tazz, three wrist watches, ten cellular phones, some clothing, a plasma television set, and drove off with the vehicle. A case of house robbery is being investigated in this regard.

On 2 November Mungoi’s girlfriend reported him missing at the Odendaalsrus Police Station.

It is reported that he had left her home at around 17:30 on 29 October. He was driving his silver-grey Toyota Hi-Lux LDV with registration number ANANMP FS. The two cellular phones Mungoi had with him are switched off.

A missing person docket has been opened.

Should anyone have information which will assist the police in tracing the missing Mungoi, they must call investigating officer Lt Col Dirk Reinecke, commander of Odendaalsrus Detective Services, on

082-466-8041.
