Man still missing after hijacking

A silver Toyota Hilux bakkie was hijacked at the Long Road junction near Lakeview, Welkom, and the driver of the vehicle is still missing.

On Wednesday, 23 January, at about 07:00, the complainant requested a ride with the driver, Ephraim Tsotetsi, who allegedly worked at the Beatrix mine shaft 4.

The two then travelled on the R30 Road from the Beatrix mine to Welkom. As they entered the Long Road junction towards Lakeview, four unknown men approached from both sides of the road with a firearm.

Tsotetsi stopped and the complainant jumped out of the bakkie and ran towards a nearby pub.

Two of the men jumped into the bakkie with Tsotetsi and drove off.

The other two men ran into the bushes near the Lakeview Pan.

Tsotetsi is medium in complexion, slender and about 1,7 m tall. He was wearing a black T-shirt, blue overall pants and black sneakers. In the police’s preliminary investigation, the mine was consulted and Tsotetsi could not be traced as a worker in the records of the Beatrix mine.

The police are still looking for the two unknown hijackers, with a Lesotho accent, that kidnapped Tsotetsi. No one has seen him since the incident.

An identikit of the suspects was compiled.

The first suspect is dark in complexion, slender, about 1,6 m tall and has short shaven hair. He was wearing a black sports hat, a brown T-shirt, grey pants and grey Puma sneakers.

The second suspect is also dark in complexion, muscular, about 1,6 m tall and has a brush haircut. He was wearing a brown leather jacket, blue overall pants and Puma sneakers.

Anyone with information can call Det. Capt. Patrick Moleme of the Vehicle Crime Investigation Unit on 057-391-6804 or on 066-272-3919.
