Options for helping are many

The Goldfields Hospice has been operating in the Goldfields community for the past 30 years.

The organisation looks after terminally ill patients and provides essential health care, medicine and adult diapers, as well as food parcels, to patients and the patients’ immediate families.

Hospice receives no financial assistance from government and relies solely on donations and help from the public and businesses.

According to Marli Young, general manager of the Goldfields Hospice Association, there are various ways of helping this organisation. These include:

  • dedicating your time;
  • donating unwanted clothes and household goods;
  • spreading the news about the Goldfields Hospice and its services to your friends and family;
  • supporting the Goldfields Hospice financially, as it can use as little as R20;
  • involving schools in donating non-perishable food items and toiletries to the Goldfields Hospice; and
  • involving businesses by promoting the 18A certificate, through which businesses can get up to 40% rebate on their tax for any cash donation made.

The Goldfields Hospice Association is in need of cleaning products such as ammonia cleaner, dishwashing liquid, bleach, washing powder, fabric softener, dish cloths, sponges and furniture polish.

The hospice also needs donations of non-perishable food, including canned food, peanut butter, syrup, jam, dry soup, tea, coffee, sugar, cereal, rice, powdered milk, long-life milk, pasta, beans, maize meal and oil.

“We also need donations of second-hand clothing for men, women, babies and children. Donations of second-hand household goods such as bed linen, curtains and towels are also welcome.”
