Phakisa hosts a spinning spectacle of saloon cars and two-wheelers

For the inland racing brigade one of the year’s highlights takes place at the Phakisa Raceway, between Welkom and Odendaalsrus, on Saturday (08/06).

The occasion is the annual Phakisa 200 Endurance Race for Car Care Clinic 111 and Superhatch saloon cars staged by the Extreme Festival.

The 200 km event has attracted a 55 car entry.

The race includes a mandatory pit stop during which the team have to remove and re-attach a wheel, while the driver who exits the car must wash the windscreen.

Last year’s winners, Mark du Toit and Kishoor Pitamber (Siris BMW Z4) should start as victory favourites.

There will be a full programme of two-wheeler spectacle, topped by two Red Square Kawasaki Masters races.

The gates open at 06:00, with warm-up sessions from 07:15. Racing starts at 08:00, with the Phakisa 200 scheduled to start at 15:15.

Admission is free, with food and drink for sale, or spectators may bring their own.
