Learners from three different High Schools in the Goldfields participated in the Welkom Today project and received a copy of the book with the same title.
This photography project included a photo exhibition, a published photo book and a documentary about Welkom.
Ad van Denderen (74), a photographer from Amsterdam, and Thabong-born Lebohang Tlali, who grew up in Welkom, helped the learners of Welkom-Gimnasium, Theto High School and the Goudveld-Hoërskool acquire photography skills.
These learners’ photos also appear in the coffee table book.
The Welkom Today project, exhibited in the Netherlands, is coming to South Africa this year.
Khojane Matutle, also involved in the project, visited all three schools to personally hand over each learner’s copy.
Van Denderen and Tlali, who presented the course, found that the learners managed to unlock their creative potential with these photographs.
