Riders show skills

Ten young horse riders from the BRS Equestrian Centre near Welkom competed at the International Children’s Classique, hosted by SA Show-jumping at Cornerstone, Pretoria, on the weekend of 31 October to 1 November.

The group of riders did exceptionally well and brought home arms full of rosettes and trophies to boast with.

Shaylene Basson (20, adult) on Galileo took first place in adult team 90 cm show jumping, third place in 80 cm show jumping SAEF (The South African Equestrian Federation) graded and recreational championship, first place in 80 cm show jumping and received the victor ludorum 80 cm adult recreational show jumping award.

Her sister Lee-Charné Basson (23, adult) on Another Chance took first place in adult team 90 cm show jumping and second place in 90 cm show jumping adult SAEF graded.

Nadja de Wet (26, adult) on Casanova Corsa was first in adult team 90 cm show jumping.

Ryan Martin (14) rode two horses, Volmoed Astrant and Kadush. On Volmoed Astrant he achieved first place in the adult team 90 cm show jumping. On his second steed Ryan got a first place in 80 cm show jumping speed SAEF, graded a fourth place in 80 cm show jumping competition SAEF and graded a first place in 80 cm SAEF graded and recreational championship. Ryan was also named victor ludorum in 80 cm show jumping SAEF graded and achieved a third place in junior team 80 cm show jumping.

Caitlin Coetzee (14) on Little bit of Lace got third positions in both 80 cm show jumping and junior team 80 cm show jumping.

Elri Coetzee (10) on Indiana Skyline got a third place in 60 cm show jumping speed and a fourth place in 60 cm show jumping competition.

Deané Coetzee (16) on Your Wish got a third place in 70 cm show jumping speed.

Breeya Bortolussi (15) on Out of the Blue got a second place in 80 cm show jumping championship and a third place in junior team 80 cm show jumping.

Kara Taute (8) on Lady Frankel got a fourth place in 60 cm show jumping speed and a fifth place in 60 cm show jumping competition.

Jo-Anne Hardy (10) on Suzzie Q got a third place in 40 cm show jumping speed and a eight place in 40 cm show jumping competition.

The riders are trained and coached by Belinda Basson of the BRS Equestrian Centre.
