Dancers tiptoe towards medals

Dancers of the Gail Barr Academy of Dance received gold, silver and bronze medals at the Free State dance awards.

This took place in the Oppenheimer Theatre in Welkom from 17 to 19 May.

The trials took place in Bloemfontein in April, after which the successful participants performed their different dance genres in Welkom.

Renemari Human received a trophy for the best dancer in tap and musical theatre for u.19.

Several dancers received gold medals. They are Gene Pretorius (modern and tap), Renemari Human (tap and musical theatre), Lieze Fouché (tap), Bailee Forster (modern), Carise van Rooyen (musical theatre), Oratile Mohlaloe (ballet), Ané van Zyl (musical theatre) and Jana Grobbelaar (tap).

Learners who received silver medals are Leonelle van Niekerk (ballet), Kaylin van Rooyen (modern), Khabiso Motloung (ballet, modern, hip hop and musical theatre), Jana Grobbelaar (musical theatre and ballet), Ann-né Venter (musical theatre), Gene Pretorius (musical theatre) and Ané van Zyl (ballet).

Jo-Marie le Roux and Nienke van Zyl received bronze medals for ballet.
