Eisteddfod attracts record number of entries

The Bethlehem Eisteddfod takes place from Monday (13/08) to Friday, 17 August.

“We have had an amazing response from the participants and have a record number of entries,” said dr. Lauren Sacht, chairperson of the Bethlehem Eisteddfod.

The art entries are being showcased at the Metropolitan Centre from Monday to Thursday. Entrance is free.

Participation in the instrumental category takes place at the Voortrekker High School in Bethlehem from 08:00 to 17:00 on Monday to Thursday. The entry fee is R5 for the entire day.

“Due to the quality of participants’ performances, it would be like visiting a music show and only paying R5,” said Sacht.

Items will be on sale, like pens, note pads with music notes, blankets with music motifs, mugs, music motif wrapping paper and #bethlehemeisteddfod umbrellas.

The dancing takes place at the Dutch Reformed Church West’s hall from Wednesday to Friday. Sacht said learners had been practicing hard and this is worth a visit.

The entrance fee is R20. A tuck shop will provide fresh foods daily.

Afrikaans drama can be seen at the Caritas Christian School from 08:00 to 17:00 on Monday to Friday.

“The learners have surpassed themselves and we have learners who entered into the unprepared reading section,” said Sacht.

The entrance fee is R5 for the entire day. Caritas has a tuck shop.

English drama is on show at the hall of the Dutch Reformed Church East from 08:00 to 17:00 on Monday to Friday. The entrance fee is R5 for the entire day.

“The quality of the learners’ performances is truly amazing. Support these learners. It will be like watching a play for the whole day, at R5.”

Performances in the vocal categorytakes place at the Truida Kestell Primary School from 08:00 to 17:00 on Thursday and Friday. This includes solo performances, duets, group performances, choir performances and singing with instrumental background.

The entrance fee is R5. There will be a tuck shop.

Sacht thanks every school in Bethlehem and surrounding districts for their support, the teachers for the preparation and the parents for encouraging their children. She also acknowledges the work done by the conveners, who have, according to her, gone above and beyond the call of duty to make this eisteddfod an amazing event.

The programme, as well as the maps to the venues, are availble at www.bethlehemeisteddfod.co.za.

There is still a need for volunteers.
