Learner rooted in his faith

Given that September is Childhood Cancer Awareness Month, Abdullah Bhayat, a learner of the Kroonstad Academy, interviewed the school’s head boy, who was diagnosed with cancer at the beginning of the year.

The 17-year-old Katleho Mahlatsi not only had to fight Hodgkin’s lymphoma in his final year of school, but was also faced with the changes brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic.

“Because I’ve heard many stories about people dying due to cancer, I was scared when I was diagnosed,” Katleho says.

Yet he firmly believes that God has helped him through all his challenges this year.

“I simply trusted God that everything would be alright.”

His treatment included stem-cell therapy, which restores damaged cells in the body. During this period, Katleho learned that nothing is impossible with God and that He is always with you – whether you think you need Him or not.

“It is important not to worry too much. Instead, I pray for strength and daily declare myself healed.”
