New measures planned for transfer station

The Dihlabeng Municipality implemented new measures to ensure that the Môrelig transfer station be managed more effectively.

The municipality has been inundated with residents’ complaints about the bad condition of the station and the health risks involved.

AfriForum addressed a letter to the Dihlabeng Municipality, insisting that something be done.

According to Tshediso Maitse, municipal spokesperson, corrective and preventative measures will be introduced to remedy the situation.

“For a permanent solution, the municipality relies on the full cooperation of the community,” says Maitse.

The Solid Waste Section, assisted by the directorate for public works, embarked on a clearing and cleaning campaign around the transfer station.

Signboards warning the community against illegal dumping outside the perimeters of the transfer station were erected.

These also indicate the operational hours.

A person will be based at the transfer station full-time.

Environmental health practitioners will assist with the by-law enforcement by issuing warning letters and fines to the transgressors.
