Scholarship can change lives

A high school scholarship is an opportunity to change one’s life in order to change the lives of others.

One learn today in order to teach tomorrow.

All Gr. 6 learners can now apply for the Allan Gray Orbis Foundation Scholarship.

The applica­tions close on Thursday, 20 September.

All successful candidates will be notified within two months after the closing date.

This scholarship programme is the start of an entrepreneurial journey.

It focuses on cultivating and growing an entrepreneurial mindset, personal mastery and academic excellence among candidates.

The foundation believes that an entrepreneurial mindset will enable learners to attain academic success and effective personal leadership.

Application criteria:

Academic requirements:

  • Applicants must achieve 70% or higher in Mathematics and English and an average of 70% in both Gr. 5 and Gr. 6.

Evidence of entrepreneurial potential:

  • Intellectual imagination: enjoys being creative and innovative.
  • Achievement excellence: sets high academic and non-academic standards for self.
  • Courageous commitment: must be courageous and determined, brave and persistent.
  • Spirit of significance: wants to make an impact on others and make a difference.
  • Personal initiative: prepared to take action to address challenges.

The applicant must be a South African citizen.

The scholarship programme provides access to quality high school education.

The foundation aims to establish passion in the selected learners and develop their potential to become self-starting, high-impact entrepreneurs.

The scholarship covers the following:

  • Full tuition and boarding fees.
  • A monthly allowance (pocket money).
  • A travel subsidy.
  • Stationery and prescribed books.
  • Toiletries, school uniforms and casual clothing.
  • Support for extra-mural activities.

Learners also have access to an entrepreneurial development programme.

This ensures their continued progress by providing additional leadership and entrepreneurial development opportunities.

The foundation understands that the transition to a new school can be challenging, and therefore provides additional support to learners to ensure a smooth and successful transition into their new environments.
