Suspects caught with unlicensed firearms, ammunition

Three suspects were expected to appear in the Bethlehem Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday (05/11) for the possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition.

Nkulelo Mtshali (25), Sakhile Ntsele (35) and Qolani Msomi (37) were arrested at a local guesthouse in Bethlehem on Friday, 25 October, through an intelligence-driven operation by the crime intelligence unit, the vehicle identification section and the dog unit.

The police followed up information about a suspected stolen vehicle parked at a local guesthouse.

A room booked by the suspects was searched.

Three firearms and rounds of live ammunition were found.

Police also seized a BMW sedan and an H1 Hyundai Combi with false registration numbers allegedly belonging to the suspects.

Lt Gen Moeketsi Sempe, the Free State provincial commissioner, said this arrest will serve as a message that criminals will be brought to book.
