Tennis players flock to Bhm

The Truida Kestell Primary School’s 19th Inter-Africa Tennis Tournament was held in Bethlehem from 8 to 11 August. place for the 19th year in Bethlehem.

This tournament was hosted by Limodo Events. Altogether 82 teams from across the country, with a total of 350 tennis players, participated in the tournament.

According to Desiree Opperman of Limodo Events, it is now the largest primary school tournament in the country.

“Players braved the cold and wet conditions and some of the top juniors in South Africa displayed tennis of the highest standard,” Opperman said.

“A very big thank you to all the schools and clubs who supported the tournament by providing us with the use of their tennis courts and facilities. We also have great appreciation for our local businesses for showing support through courtesy vehicles, accommdodaton and food vouchers. A tournament of this nature does not only have great tennis, but is a tremendous boost for the economy of our town.”

In the boys A division, Grey College in Bloemfontein was placed first, with the Durban Preparatory School in second place and the Louw Geldenhuys Primary School in Johannesburg in third place.

The Laer Meisieskool Oranje in Bloemfontein clinched the girls A division, with the Senekal Primary School in second place and the Louw Geldenhuys Primary School in third place.

Cornwall College in Centurion won the B division for the boys. Unika in Johannesburg won the second place, and Curro Hazeldean in Pretoria placed third.

Two schools from Kimberley ended first and second in the girls B division. The Newton Primary School was placed first, while the Eureka Primary School ended second. Curro Hazeldean in Pretoria was placed third.

Zander Steenkamp from Kathu won the Inter-Africa sportsman trophy.
