Two die in collision

Two people died and more were injured in a head-on collision on the R26 between Bethlehem and Reitz on Saturday (28/09) at about 02:55.

Frans Mphojane and Sylivia Mokoena, who were driving in a Volkswagen Golf, were declared dead on the scene.

According to Const. Puleng Lebakeng, police spokesperson, the vehicle was travelling from Bethlehem. The other vehicle involved was a Toyota Corolla that was travelling from Reitz.

Another passenger who was in the Golf and three passengers of the Corolla were taken to hospital with serious injuries. According to Lebakeng, the next of kin had not yet been notified and their names may not be made public.

Mondli Mvambi, spokesperson for the Free State Department of Health, says three patients were taken to the Dihlabeng Hospital in Bethlehem. Two of them were admitted here and the other one was transferred to the Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein with a head injury. The fourth patient was admitted to the Phekolong Hospital and will be transferred to Pelonomi today (02/10).

Lebakeng says a case of culpable homicide is being investigated.
