Local company is providing food parcels to community

Pioneer Foods, in association with Meals on Wheels, distributes food parcels to communities in need in the Atlantis area on Thursday 18 June.

The initiative forms part of the #GiveMealsGiveHope programme where the PepsiCo Foundation offers a two-to-one match for all employee charitable contributions to the cause of providing Covid-19 relief.

Locally, Pioneer Foods has partnered with Meals on Wheels to reach out to those beneficiaries in need, particularly where its production sites are located.

Pioneer Foods, a subsidiary of PepsiCo, has a strong presence in the Atlantis area, with a number of key production sites situated here.

“As one of the major employers in the area, the decision for us to provide assistance to the surrounding community made the most sense,” said Group Executive, Sustainability and Stakeholders Nico Moloto.

He added this donation has personal significance for employees at Pioneer Foods, for it recognises the need brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, inducing employees to react quickly and offer a portion of their salaries to benefit others of their community. A number of Atlantis-based employees also volunteer to assist in the distribution of the food parcels.

“As a leading food and beverage company in South Africa, we believe it is our responsibility to help alleviate the hunger of our country’s people on a sustainable basis,” says CEO of PepsiCo Sub-Saharan Africa Tertius Carstens.

The company believes the best way to support communities is by working with partners to bring food to communities and those who need it most.
