MyCiTi fares cheaper from 1 July

“We are grateful to be able to give MyCiTi commuters much needed financial relief, come 1 July.”

So said Cape Town Mayor Dan Plato, who explained that the ticket price reduction had been made possible by the significant drop in fuel prices due to the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, which has slowed down economies and caused a drop in demand for fuel worldwide.

“With the reduction in fares for the new financial year, MyCiTi commuters will travel for less while we are bracing for the financial impact of Covid-19,” he explained.

“The tariff conditions for the MyCiTi service determine that, should the fuel price drop below R11,23 per litre for diesel at the coast in the month of May 2020, then we can pass on these savings to the commuters from 1 July 2020,” Mayoral Committee Member for Transport, Alderman Felicity Purchase. “This is possible because of the operational savings in fuel costs in running the MyCiTi service.”

From 1 July commuters will benefit from the following savings:. Reduced fares for Mover points in the peak and off-peak travelling period . Monthly pass reduced from R850 to R790. A reduction in the one, three and seven-day passes. Distance-based decreases for standard fare.

Commuters travelling in peak hour from Atlantis to the Adderley station in Cape Town will pay R24,40, from R27,90, for a one-way journey on Mover, or R7 for a return trip. Atlantis commuters can save up to R147 per month.

Standard fare from Atlantis will be R29,30, a saving of R10,30 from before.
