Words by Sr Olivia Pharo, founder of Sr Pharo’s Primary Health Care Clinic. at its breast cancer awareness event held on Friday 25 October.

Pharo says the lighting of candles ceremony in memory of those departed was the highlight of the day. “One could really feel the outflow of emotions,” she said.

Guest speakers included keynote speaker Volene Werely of the Nursing Directorate, Sarah Roberts and local police spokesperson Captain Cyril Dicks, who shared their struggles and journey with the Big C.

“Captain Dicks has always been a beacon in the community of Atlantis, and I discovered today that he also fought and won the battle against cancer,” Pharo said.

“This truly speaks to his character.”

Pharo thanked everyone who attended, from Drs Lorenzo Maya and Melissa Pietersen, Gwen Andersen, all the families who have lost a loved one from cancer as well as everyone who donated to the event.
