Get out your running shoes for the Weskus Marathon

Entries are officially open for the highly anticipated 19th Weskus Marathon to be held on Saturday 14 March at the West Coast National Park.

This annual event consists of: a 42,2 km full marathon, 21,1 km half-marathon and a 10 km and 5 km fun run/walk.

This year 4 666 runners from far and near took part in this growing attraction, a great fundraiser for the West Coast National Park, to which all proceeds go.

The marathon is a collaboration between the Langebaan Country Estate (LCE) and Langebaan Strandlopers in association with the West Coast Honorary Rangers.

Runners should bear in mind that this marathon is a qualifier for the Two Oceans Ultra as well as the Comrades Marathon.

It remains to be seen whether next year’s marathon runners can snatch the throne from current record holders, which are: . Marathon Men: Lungile Gongqa: 2h 23:17, . Marathon Women: Farwa Mentoor: 2h 58:49. ½ Marathon Men: Bernard Rukadza: 1h 06:53. ½ Marathon Women: Alae Brand: 1h 22:05. 10 km men: Danzil Paulse: 31:16. 10 km women: Annie Bothma: 36:38

Weslander is one of the sponsors of this event and will man one of the water points on the day.

There will also be prize money valued at R64 760 up for grabs as well as many lucky draws, which include running shoes, running gear, restaurant vouchers, and much more.

Participants can enter online or at any Pick n Pay store.

Entries close on Monday 9 March.
