Kyousei students perform ‘outstandingly well’

Members of the Karate Kyousei Kazoku represented Atlantis and Darling in the Western Cape Karate team at the recent championship in Durban.

The South African All styles Championships were held from 21 to 24 March. The local team participated against thousands of entrants.

Ruwayden May attained third place in kata (forms), Aqeelah Smit came first in kumite (fighting), Chrisandro Flemmer was first in kata and third in kumite, Chloe Fisher attained second place in kata and third in team kata, Jayda Arendse came third in team kata, Jamey-Lee Fisher took first place in kata and third in kumite and Camile Carls who won third in kumite and third in team kata.

Sensei, Alphonso Afrika, says he is very proud of his students. “From more than a 1 000 entries our students did outstandingly well,”Afrika added. “They practised everyday and the results has shown that through hard work dreams and goals can be achieved.”

Jamey-Lee was included in the national Protea team and sister Chloe and Camile are now waiting to hear if they made the South African team. An announcement will be made in the next two weeks.

Jamey-Lee stands a chance to be selected to go to Croatia, where she can attempt to qualify for the Youth Olympics later this year.
