Bird books for youth

The West Coast National Park is a mecca for bird lovers with its mix of fynbos birds, sea-birds and waders. The four hides in the park are heavily visited with rarities regularly being spotted.

Children coming in groups to the park are also taught about the birds and their importance. Recently Struik Publishers donated a number of copies of the fourth edition of Sasol’s Voëls van Suider-Afrika to the Cape Bird Club, who provided the SANParks Honorary Rangers West Coast Region with copies to distribute to the different parks.

Ten copies were handed to West Coast National Park representative, Lesley Nchabeleng, at the region’s monthly meeting, by chairperson Dries Venter.

These books are to be used for educational purposes by the WCNP. Rangers working in the park will also be receiving their own copies, giving their personal interest in the birdlife of the park and the region a welcome boost.
