Enter the Mykonos Fishing Derby

The Mykonos Fishing Derby will be returning on Saturday 5 October at the Club Mykonos Boatyard.

Prizes to the value of R35 000 must be won. Closing date for entries is Thursday 3 October at 15:00, entry fee per person is R150. You can enter at Club Mykonos or submit remittance to info@clubmykonos.co.za. Cash entries for the first three places are R20 000, R10 000 and R5 000 respectively.

How will it work?

The following fish species qualify for the competition: White stumpnose, steentjie, black tail (dassie), cape bream (hottentot) and cob. The most species with the biggest combined weight will be the overall winner, for example, a bag with five different fish species with a weight of 3 kg qualifies higher in ranking than 3 different fish species with a weight of 5 kg.

Weigh-in and prizes

All fish species captured and weighed in must adhere to the minimum requirements of the law and undersized fish must be released unharmed. The scale for the weighing in of fish as set out by the organisers, will be seen as the official scale for the competition. Only one bag per person is allowed to be weighed in. Fish can be gutted to determine contents of the stomach.

Weigh-in will take place from 14:00 to 15:00 at the Athene Conference Centre and the prize-giving ceremony will follow at 15:30. Participants must be present at the prize-giving to be awarded a prize, or they will forfeit the prize with the exception of an emergency that has been approved by the Mykonos management.

Protect the environment

As Saldanha Bay and the Langebaan Lagoon form a marine protected area, Club Mykonos requests that all participants honour the rules and regulations set out in the Mykonos Fishing Derby.
