Extend UIF Covid-19 TERS support.
This was the call from Economic Development and Tourism MEC David Maynier, following President Cyril Ramaphosa’s announcement that the Level 3 restrictions will remain in place until 15 February.
“The tourism and hospitality industry has already been hard-hit,” he said in a statement, “and jobs are being lost as a result of the continued closure of the beaches, the curfew and the alcohol ban which are having a devastating impact on businesses and jobs in the Western Cape.”
Maynier says he has written to Employment and Labour Minister Thulas Nxesi to extend the UIF Covid-19 TERS scheme urgently for the duration of the Level 3 restrictions to help many survive.
Approximately R56 billion in UIF Covid-19 TERS payouts have been distributed nationally for the period from the end of March to 15 October 2020.
