Owners of firearms are urged to hand in unwanted firearms or renew their firearm licence before the deadline on 31 January. The firearm amnesty period is granted in order to reduce the number of illegally possessed firearms in circulation in the country.
All firearms that have been handed in will undergo ballistic testing to ensure that they have not been used in the commission of any crimes before they can be considered for destruction. Applications can be done at your nearest police station from 08:00 to 13:00, Mondays to Thursdays.
