Investment Centre ready to serve

Local and foreign investors can now look forward to growing their business in the West Coast as Saldanha Bay Municipality (SBM) launches their new Investment Centre.

Cornell de Kock, senior manager for economic development and strategic services at SBM, spoke to Weslander regarding the centre – which opened on Friday 3 May – highlighting their ambitions and services.

Construction on the centre, which cost around R3,2 million, began in November last year and was completed in approximately six months.

De Kock says the municipality’s vision for the centre is to change the way in which the municipality traditionally does business. This means “not just focusing on compliance and the constitution but also looking at the businesses that support and employ people in this area and to help make their lives easier”.

She adds that they also wish to employ red-tape reduction in their services to help streamline the process when serving clients.

Their vision entails working with the corporate institutions to create more jobs in the area, as well as making the municipal area more attractive for investment.

De Kock explains that simplifying the process of investment can help increase jobs and decrease poverty in the area. The centre also aims to increase the expansion opportunities of businesses that are currently investing in the area, as well as to attract new business to the area.

“For new businesses we have to focus on what attracts people to the area and highlight what makes it beneficial for them to invest in the area,” she said.

The centre provides a wide array of services, such as: Town Planning, Informal Trade, Small, Medium and Micro-sized Enterprises (SMME) Development, Spatial and Forward Planning, Events Management, Integrated Developement Planning, Performance Management, Public Participation in Community Development and Intergovernmental Relations.

They also have reception areas that are specifically designated for certain services and consultation services to assist businesses when starting projects.

“If you’re a new developer in the area, you would have a consultation session with our staff to help guide you through the process.”

The centre will officially be open to the public in the next two weeks.
