L’baanweg AFB Casual Day heroes

The Air Force Base Langebaanweg received an award from the Casual Day Association at the Lagoon Beach Hotel in Milnerton, Cape Town on Friday 1 March.

The National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities, Casual Day and the Association for Persons with Disabilities honoured stakeholders and supporters at the awards ceremony for ongoing support. This event marked the 25th anniversary of the Casual Day Association, and this year’s theme was “Salute the Casual Day Heroes of 2018’’.

Casual Day annually takes place annually on the first Friday in September, when participants wear a sticker to show support for people with disabilities.

Fanie du Toit of the National Council of and for Persons with Disabilities addressed the gathering, where he shared some beneficiary stories and told of the funds raised.

He stressed that people with disabilities are really no different from anyone else, and must never be underestimated.

The purpose of Casual Day is to raise awareness and to foster a culture of inclusivity.

The Department of Defence, and particularly Air Force Base Langebaanweg, expressed pride in being associated with these organisations.

One of South Africa’s emerging operatic talents, Mthetho Maphoyi, entertained all stakeholders and role-players present.

Among various military bases, Air Force Base LBW received an award. Brigadier General MM Matanda, General Officer Commanding Air Force Base Langebaanweg, and his personnel were present.
