Municipalities do Covid-19 awareness campaigns

Bergrivier and Saldanha Bay municipalities recently hosted successful Covid-19 awareness campaigns in their respective communities.

Bergrivier Municipality (BM) in partnership with the Thompson Trust hosted a three-day Covid-19 Community Public Awareness and Prevention Campaign, to further strengthen its efforts to combat Covid-19. The aim was to mobilise public support in the fight against Covid-19.

According to Alderman Ray van Rooy, Executive Mayor of Bergrivier, a culture of awareness, prevention and community-based adherence to the national regulations set out by national government was fostered.

He said: “We broadcast the do’s and don’ts and, of course, the importance of wearing a cloth mask when leaving home and regularly washing hands.

“Our sincerest appreciation to Thompson Trust and all essential workers working tirelessly to safeguard Bergrivier. You are amazing. Let us continue working together to combat this virus by adhering to all health regulations, instructions and advice.

“Keep social distancing a priority and wash your hands with soap regularly.”

The Saldanha Bay Municipality (SBM) Covid-19 awareness campaign bus, in partnership with the West Coast District Municipality (WCDM), visited all seven towns, including Green Village and the residents who live at the harbour in houses owned by the departement of Public Works.

“The information was very well received,” said Petra Ebete, spokesperson for Marius Koen, Executive Mayor of Saldanha Bay. “People came out of their houses and waved as the bus moved through the streets.”

Koen explained that the campaign was held to inform residents about the fast spread of the Covid-19 virus and ways to stay safe.

“Thank you to everyone for their cooperation. Stay warm and safe,” she said.
