Rappers want to inspire the youth

The R.E.A.L Muzik group (Ready To Engage And Lead) aim to spice up the music industry with some West Coast flavour and share their unique style and music wherever they perform.

The group was formed in 2008 and have been active for ten years. R.E.A.L Muzik has eight members, some of which are from Hopefield and each of them plays a different role in the group from, rappers, producers to singers.

The artists are Chadwin (Cooker) Cook (25), Rupert (Chazer) Makka (27), Bronwin (Juice) Papier (26), Joseph (J. Paulino) August (25), Lorenzo (Razer) Huyster (19), Griffen (G. Thunder) Papier (20), Richard (Richy) Williams (26) and Ameer (G. Green) Kinnear (26).

According to one of the R.E.A.L Muzik members, Makka, before their music took off, the group first began as a hobby.

“At school we began rapping and called ourselves Real Playaz. This hobby later became serious and that was when the name changed to R.E.A.L Muzik,” explains Makka.

“We formed the group to keep ourselves busy as well as out of trouble,” he added.

The group draws inspiration from artists like Hemelbesem, Early-B, Youngsta and Kallitz (Dr, Boere and Skelm).

“Our music can be described as mainly Afrikaans Rap / Hip Hop.” He explains that some of their songs share messages of inspiration and love and sometimes it’s just a fun dance track.

R.E.A.L Muzik’s first television appearance occurred in 2011 on the Hectic Nine 9 show.

Among the R.E.A.L Muzik’s other appearances include: the Hype it Up show on Cape TV, the Snoek en Patatfees, Spore Oppi Sand, as well as conducting radio interviews with Heart FM and Bush Radio.

Some of the group’s music videos have also been aired on the KykNetNou channel.

Makka adds that one of the goals of R.E.A.L Muzik is to show people that one can make a difference, no matter where one comes from, and to inspire the local youth. “There is more to the West Coast than drugs and gangsterism. Dream big, start small, work hard and always keep it real.”
