The First Boland Athletic League at Dal Josaphat Stadium took place on Saturday 16 November and locals took part.
Langebaan running clubs took part in the first athletic meeting in Paarl with perfect weather for walking, running and jumping.
Even during strict Covid-19 conditions most members achieved their Personal Best (PB) or Season’s Best (SB).
All the local athletes took first position in their respective age groups. Most members of Langebaan Athletics Club and Langebaan Strandlopers Athletics Club are used to participating in Boland, WP and SA National Master Championships annually.
Due to Covid-19 none of these events materialised in 2020.
Performance of the day went to Jadden Lesch running a perfect tactical race. The barefoot runner took control of the race with 600 m to go and won the race with 100 m before the second place athlete.
His coach, Clive Cupido, said this is a great time, as this is only the start of the season and the members had not yet started with speed work.
Husband-and-wife team Douglas and Sandra Hector did very well in their 5 000 m speed walk.
This team members with Willem Schlehmeyer, promote walking and running in the Vredenburg area.
