The West Coast’s soccer stars celebrated their successes and were rewarded for their hard work and excellent achievements during the Saldanha Bay Local Football Association’s (Salfa) annual awards evening.

The event was held at the Dial Rock Hall in Saldanha on Wednesday 27 November.

According to Marius Cleophas, member of Salfa, the awards evening was a great success and they were honoured to host the president of the South African Football Association (Safa) in the West Coast, Gerald Don, who delivered the keynote address.

“He spoke about transformation in football and the hopes of attracting more women and girls to the sport.”

Langebaan Football Club (LFC) enjoyed an undefeated season this and were crowned as the promotional league champions during the evening.

“The award for the most improved club of the season went to Future Stars FC and the First Division champions were Rastas FC,” explained Cleophas.

Awards went to the following recipients:

. Knockout Cup winner – Peace Makes FC.

. Peter Phango FA Cup – winner Peace Makes FC.

. Juniors u-11 league winner – Peace Makes FC.

. Juniors u-13 league winner – Amabantinti FC.

. Juniors u-13 Built it Cup winner- Zulu Boys FC.

. Junior team of the year – Saldanha Heros.

. Safa Club of the season – Diaz Leeds FC.

Cleophas adds that the Salfa league’s future plans include the establishment and development of a local club in Hopefield.

“At this moment we have footprints in all our towns with the exception of Hopefield. Our hope is to get the town’s football lovers involved and we are still trying to establish a football club there,” explained Cleophas.

The new season will resume on Sunday 12 January.
