Fisher’s tourney successful

The 31st SA Fish Industries tournament proved yet again to be a huge success with many teams going head to head for the top spot at the Smit Sports Grounds in Velddrif.

The tournament took place on Friday 26 October and Sunday 27 October and was hosted by Velddrif Tourism.

There was also a variety of different sports that were played on the day such as rugby, soccer and netball.

Around 16 rugby teams, 29 soccer teams and 34 netball teams took part on the day.

According to Boland Rugby Union manager Cliffie Booysen, a donation of R10 000 was also made to Cansa West Coast.

“This was part of our way to say thank you to the West Coast fishing community for the support for the past 31 years of the existence of the tournament,” explained Booysen.

He adds that two teams were also selected at the tournament to play at the Boland Presidents XV as well as the Boland Invitational XV on Saturday 17 November, as part of the Boland Rugby Union’s talent identification process for possible inclusion in the Boland Cavaliers training squad for 2019.
