Five anglers from the West Coast will be eager to prove their mettle at the 2019 World Shore Angling Championships which takes place in Langebaan from Monday 11 February to Thursday 14 February.
The competition venue will cover the beach area between Dwarskersbos North to Lapa to the Bergriver mouth.
According to Adiel Behardien (manager of the mens and pairs teams) the 2019 World Shore Angling Championships is only a facet of the fourth edition of the Sport Fishing World Championships, which is described as the largest angling championship in the world.
He adds that the competition will host all the various angling codes as well.
This will also be the 36th year for the Men’s team, 27th for the Ladies, the third year for the Masters as well as the second year for the Pairs teams.
The national teams will also start arriving in Langebaan on Friday 8 February.
“Michael Viljoen (Langebaan) will compete in the Mens Team, Albert Thurling (Vredenburg) in the Pairs Team, Terry Boucher (Langebaan) is the coach of the Pairs team, Chantel Carsten (Saldanha) competes in the Ladies team and Thys Basson (Saldanha) is in the Masters team,” explained Behardien.
There will also be an official opening ceremony where the anglers taking part are expected to gather at the Nelson Mandela Square in Sandton City, Johannesburg, on Saturday 9 February, for a street parade, which will commence at 10:30 from Mandela Square towards the Sandton Convention Centre.
