Make your own Valentine’s Day gifts

Many of us may still be recovering from the (financially) long January. Instead of buying that special someone a gift for 14 February, make your own.

Bath Bombs

Since water restrictions have been slightly lifted, give your Valentine bath bombs for a deserving pamper session.

Ingredients:

1 cup citric acid, 2 cups baking soda, 2 tbsp cornstarch, 28 g shea butter or coconut butter (melted), 5-6 drops essential oil of choice, 1-2 drops red food colouring (optional) and spray bottle of witch hazel

Directions:

In a mixing bowl combine cornstarch, citric acid and baking soda, being sure to remove all lumps. Add in food colouring, melted butter and essential oil and continue to mix.

Press into silicone moulds, making sure to compact them tightly. Allow to dry in silicon molds for 12 hours. After 12 hours remove from the moulds, and allow to dry an additional 24 hours for a nice hard bath bomb.

Recipe from artcraftsandfamily.com

If you are planning on giving a loved one flowers, make the gifts extra special with this Sweetheart Vase.

You will need:

a mason jar, baker’s twine, red felt, a large needle and glue or tape.

Directions:

Cut red felt into small hearts. Thread your needle with baker’s twine, and push it through the centre of the heart.

Keep stringing hearts on the twine, leaving a few cm between them. Then secure one end of the twine to the jar with a dot of tacky glue or a bit of clear tape. Wind the twine around the jar and secure the loose end at the top with your glue/tape. All done!
