Adult students honoured

You’re never too old to learn.

A group of adult students from all over the province, who obtained their General Education and Training Certificates (GETC) was recently honoured at a prestigious event hosted at the Cape Winelands District Education Community Hall.

The adult students obtained the qualification through programmes offered by the Western Cape Community Education and Training College (WCCETC) which is governed by the Continuing Education and Training (CET), previously known as ABET.

“This was a Provincial Awards Event. Students were awarded for excellent achievement in the different subjects. Edward Scroeder (66) a student at Elsiesrivier CLC, was awarded the provincial and regional award for being the oldest student to obtain his GETC. Schroeder indicates that he is still studying and will complete his senior certificate soon,” said a coordinator of the event, Anne Marais.

Community Learning Centres (CLC) were awarded in different categories for overall excellence in their different subjects. CLC’s were also awarded for the effective retention of students according to enrolments at the beginning of 2018 and the examinations at the end of the year together with their pass rates. The overall excellent centre achievement in more than 80% in five subjects was won by Samora Machel CLC.

Adults interested in furthering their studies through a CLC are welcome to contact WCCETC on 021 928 8320.
