Two people were caught travelling with abalone worth more than R600 000 in an Eagle Liner bus.

According to the police information was received about the shipment of abalone in the Eagle Liner Bus that was travelling from Cape Town towards Worcester on the N1.

On Friday 14 June the K9 Unit in Worcester arrested two suspects with 2 236 units of abalone with an estimated street market value of R662 400.

According to local police spokesperson, Capt Lindikhaya Mkhontwana, the identified bus was stopped at N1 Breede Valley Ultra City and searches were conducted.

“The police used sniffer dogs and found brown boxes that were wrapped in plastic, containing dried abalone. The two suspects were arrested by the police and they confiscated the abalone,” says Mkhontwana.
