Case of octogenarian rape accused is postponed

The case of a 84-year-old teacher, who has been charged with raping one of his former students, has been postponed again.

The teacher, who was charged earlier this year, has not appeared on either of his court dates, his lawyer citing his advanced age.

The man falls under the high-risk category, according to Covid-19 regulations.

According to the former student, he started sexually abusing her when she was 15 years old, and by the time she was matric he was intimately abusing her.

The abuse continued after she had matriculated, right up until she left Worcester.

The victim says she never spoke about what was going on at the time because she feared being victimised. “I was scared of being blamed for what happened to me so I never said anything,” she had previously told Standard.

The case was postponed to next month, pending further investigation.
