Worcester’s movement for fostering peace

The Worcester Hope and Reconciliation Process (WHRP) is inviting all Worcestarians to join them in making the town a better place for all.

WHRP is a movement that reaches across boundaries and unites people of differents faiths and viewpoints in a single mission, to foster a culture of peace in the town.

For many, WHRP may be associated purely with the Peace Train, the annual Peace Table or the Ubuntu Walk (the walk on 18 July, Mandela Day, from Esselen Park to the Peace Garden on the plain).

The movement, however, tries to make a contribution on five fronts: social cohesion, human settlement, financial freedom, transformational education and positive lifestyle.

So Worcestarians with a passion and interest in making Worcester a better place should find the space to live out their passion, says a spokesperson.

Tonight, 1 November, at 18:00 the WHRP movement will host its AGM in the hall of the Dutch Reformed church. Guest speaker Theo Mayekiso will talk on “Why reconciliation and restitution are necessary”.

A new steering committee will also be formed at the AGM, an open event to which everyone is welcome.

All Worcestarians are also invited to nominate someone for the annual Peace Award, which is bestowed at the Peace Table on 30 December.

Forms will be available at the AGM or you can contact any of the following members: GP Kellermann on 076 315 0109, Harris Sibeko on 083 315 1634 or Sebastian Abrahams on 073 454 5347.
