Soccer alive and well in Cape Winelands

Recently, soccer teams from across the Cape Winelands gathered in Zwelethemba in Worcester to show off their skills and make a play for the title of best team in the Cape Winelands.

The cheers and hoots of spectators, together with the excited commentary from the master of ceremonies could be heard from far away, cementing the fact that no matter how big or small a community, sport remains a common denominator.

This round of matches between teams from the Breede Valley was hosted by the Cape Winelands District Municipality (CWDM) and the local Football Association of the Breede Valley.

The teams, ranging from u-13s all the way through senior men and women, played serious games with a lot of fancy foot work and effective goalie skills.

The match of the day was the u-15s, who played a marvellous game with a winning score of 2-0 to the North Side. This winning team was made up of players from Zwelethemba and De Doorns. Their opponents, the South Side, were players from Worcester and Rawsonville.

It is due to the hugely positive impact that sport makes on both the individual and the community that the CWDM actively encourages and supports sport development in the district.
