Tournament to tilt the tee to transformation

It’s not how you play, it’s enjoying the day that will tilt the tee towards transformation!

One of the most exciting, unconventional and constructive annual events on Worcester’s social calendar has come around again – the SN Pool/Mayoral Golf Day on Friday 15 November at the Worcester Golf Course.

Eagerly anticipated not only as an entertaining event with a carnival atmosphere, and as a challenging day for golfing gophers and champs, it’s also a major fundraising event – as the 4-ball American Scramble, launching at 12:00 with a cannon hit-off, provides an enjoyable sporting opportunity to promote and support the work of no less than 20 NPO’s in the region who devote their time to helping, healing and empowering our communities.

Golfers are invited to come and swing their irons for a donation of R2 000 to benefit the more than 400 individuals and enterprises who come under the beneficiary umbrella of the 20 registered NPO’s, while the event also gives businesses a chance to get involved by adopting an organisation that in turn is enabled to contribute hands-on help to an expanding network of community infrastructure.

Support towards making the event a success comes from all quarters of the Worcester community. Now in their 64th year as one of the Western Cape’s leading transport companies on the national grid, the organisers, who have made it their mission to empower women and youth, and to reduce unemployment in the Breede Valley Municipal area, are not alone in making this such a successful and talked-about event, as their policy for sharing and giving back includes inviting the participation of well-known local individuals, schools, a popular discount supermarket, and caring independent vendors, who offer tents for the occasion, make and supply potjiekos and rice as well as vegetables and salads, cakes and cool drinks, to ensure everyone is fed and looked after. Guests can also feel free to bring their own picnic hampers to further indulge in during the rest of the day.

“Good-sport” players and NPO guests are invited from 10:00, but the golfing challenge will tee-off at 12:00.

Movies and games will be laid on throughout the day for 80 invited children, and there will be a dinner for all in the evening, making it a calendar event not to be missed.
