Take garden waste directly to landfills – City

akkreditasie

Space to accommodate garden waste at municipal drop-off facilities is limited, as the appointment of a contractor to perform chipping at the sites is pending.

The City of Cape Town’s Solid Waste Management Department said the Gordon’s Bay Drop-off Facility is among the sites affected by the delay. “In addition, the necessary administration related to the contract to provide front loaders to stockpile garden greens is being finalised,” a statement from the City read.

“When these drop-off facilities have reached their capacity, residents may be asked to take garden waste to Coastal Park or Vissershok landfill sites. Alternatively, residents are encouraged to take their garden waste directly to these landfill sites.”

There is currently no greens chipping service available on site at the Gordon’s Bay, Woodstock, Hout Bay, Kommetjie, Mitchells Plain, Killarney, Tygerdal and Wynberg facilities.

“To reduce the risk of sites reaching capacity, residents and businesses are requested to please dispose of garden greens at landfills wherever possible,” the City said.
