Residents in Durbanville Hills were shocked on Sunday 15 March  when 21 shots were fired in short succession at a neighbour, the alleged gang leader Horatio (Voudie) Solomons and his daughter (13).

Solomons (30), allegedly the leader of the Terrible Josters in Delft, Wesbank, Elsies River and Kleinmond, was shot in the head and chest and is said to be in a stable condition in Tygerberg Hospital.

His daughter, who was shot in the chest, passed away on Monday morning.

They were shot in their vehicle, a Ford Ranger bakkie, by an unknown gunman at about 20:45 just after they arrived home.

They were still in the bakkie in the driveway of their house at 44 Drakenstein Road in Durbanville Hills – just about five houses away from the Durbanville rose garden, when the shots were fired.

According to information, Solomons’ father was inside the house when he heard gunshots, according to Capt Marchell Rhode, spokesperson for the Durbanville police.

He went to investigate and found that his son and granddaughter were shot inside their vehicle. He took them to hospital.

Rhode said about R29 000 in cash was found in the bakkie.

The bakkie is also allegedly stolen and had a cloned registration number plate, Rhode said.

An attempted murder case is being investigated by the Durbanville police. No arrests have yet been made, Rhode said.

Solomons was released on R10 000 bail in December, reported the Cape Argus.

It was in connection with a case where he and 11 other alleged gang members face 77 charges, including 11 murders, dealing in drugs, money laundering, illegal possession of firearms and contravention of the Prevention of Organised Crime Act (POCA).

It was testified by a state witness in this court case that Solomons is the leader of the Terrible Josters in Delft, Wesbank, Elsies River and Kleinmond.

As part of his bail conditions Solomons must reside at his house in Durbanville Hills until the conclusion of the trial.

He must also report to the Durbanville police station every Monday, Wednesday and Friday during the hours of 06:00 and 20:00.
