Craig Pawson is today's referee. This season, he has administered 46 yellow cards and a single red in 12 matches. That was a controversial sending off of Pascal Struijk of Leeds United against Liverpool.
City hold a 10-point lead at the top of the Premier League table heading into this game. Liverpool trail by a further point with a game in hand over Pep Guardiola's side and their opponents today. A Chelsea win would blow the title race open. Anything less would make it very difficult to catch City.
Hello and welcome to our live coverage of this Premier League clash between leaders and defending champions Manchester City and second-placed European champions Chelsea at the Etihad Stadium.
KICK-OFF! Chelsea get the match up and running at the Etihad Stadium, the team who they beat to win the UEFA Champions League final last year, but the team to beat in the Premier League by some distance.
City look for the ball over the top for Grealish via Rodri. Kepa races out and cannons the ball into the onrushing Azpilicueta, who was looking to beat the former Aston Villa man to the ball. The deflection is kind to Chelsea and the ensuing corner is well dealt with. Kepa has the ball again and can breathe easily for a moment.
Alonso clumsily trips Sterling after being beaten. After pressure from City players, Craig Pawson brandishes the first yellow card of the game, but the Spaniard cannot complain about that.
Lukaku bulldozes through Stones and looks to play Ziyech in. The pass is a poor one and the offside flag goes up anyway. Lukaku perhaps would have been better served looking for Alonso to his left or going alone.
De Bruyne gets in behind the Chelsea defence on City's left and looks to square it, but Alonso intercepts and clears.
Chance for Stones with the header, but it's straight at Kepa, who makes a comfortable save.
It's been a cagey start to the game, with not much in the way of clear chances. Lukaku needs to hold the ball up a bit better if he wants to bring Chelsea into this game. They need all three points and their attack therefore has to be firing on all cylinders.
Chelsea win possession in a dangerous area and Ziyech looks to cross, but that's cleared comfortably and City look to counter.
Grealish tees up de Bruyne, who shoots from an awkward angle near the byline. Kepa makes a fairly comfortable save.
Chelsea still have yet to take a single shot at goal. This is not the look of a Premier League champion, though there is time yet for them to rectify that.
Kovacic fouls Bernardo Silva and picks up a yellow card.
City have Chelsea on the ropes, but they haven't done an awful lot to trouble Kepa as of yet.
CHANCE! Kovacic's mistake allows Grealish in as he passes towards the goalmouth and sees the ball intercepted. Kepa reacts quickly and does superbly to deny him!
Grealish makes a good run down City's left, receives the pass and then cuts back for de Bruyne, who fires over the target.
HALF-TIME: MANCHESTER CITY 0-0 CHELSEA. We head into the break goalless after only one minute of stoppage time. City have been the better side, but Jack Grealish saw his close-range shot saved by Kepa as he squandered the best chance of the game so far.
Off we go for the start of the second half.
Chance for Chelsea on the counter after City missed an opportunity a moment ago. Lukaku's shot is saved. Ziyech can't turn home on the follow-up!
Alonso goes for goal from long range, but fires off target. Chelsea are looking sharper in the second half.
City have regained a degree of control once again.
Sterling goes down after contact from Alonso and looks for a penalty. The flag is up for offside though, and in any case, that looked like contact that was sought by Sterling.
Ziyech does well to draw a foul from de Bruyne.
Grealish wins a free-kick within shooting range. It was slightly soft but City will take it.
De Bruyne goes for goal, but Kepa tips it behind for a corner.
Sterling fires across the face of goal and wide. Chelsea use the opportunity to bring Werner on in place of Pulisic, while Hudson-Odoi replaces Ziyech, who did not have his best game.
GOAL, CITY, DE BRUYNE! 1-0: De Bruyne beats the challenge of Kante, charges forward and unleashes an inch-perfect drive into the bottom corner. He loves banging worldies in against his former club, and he might just have destroyed their title ambitions!
At the other end, Azpilicueta tees up Werner, but the Germany international's shot is blocked.
City are posing questions of Chelsea while on the break. The Blues are struggling to gain any real momentum.
Hudson-Odoi gets into a good position on Chelsea's left but overhits his cross. Alonso makes way and is replaced by Mason Mount.
After City squander an opportunity to score a second goal, de Bruyne, the scorer of the only goal of the game so far, makes way for Gundogan.
Grealish looks to beat Kepa at his near post. The Spanish goalkeeper parries, then collects at the second attempt.
Gabriel Jesus comes on for City in place of Foden.
Into three minutes of stoppage time we go. It looks unlikely that Chelsea will find an equaliser, but there's hope yet.
FULL-TIME: MANCHESTER CITY 1-0 CHELSEA. Kevin de Bruyne's stunner separates the sides at the Etihad Stadium and City go 13 points clear at the top of the table. Over 180 minutes of head-to-head action, they have blown Chelsea off the park.
