What a waste... Chiefs send the big men forward but the corner is taken short and Frosler ends up playing a loose pass straight out for a goalkick.
BLOCK! A first shot of the match and it's for Chiefs. Matlou sets up Sithebe but Ritchie charges the effort down and away for a corner.
GOAL, KAIZER CHIEFS, DU PREEZ! The R10m man has his first goal for the club. Maart to Matlou, then a tackle deflects the ball through to Du Preez who curls the opener past Ndlovu. Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 Maritzburg United.
That goal has settled Chiefs down. They're passing with confidence now and pressing very well in midfield.
Maart and Matlou are getting very involved. The ball is worked down the left but Ndengane does well in a battle with Du Preez and wins a goalkick.
Tackle! Solomons make a good impression on his full Amakhosi debut and he crunches into a clean tackle on Soukouna. That will give him confidence after replacing Blom in the XI tonight.
Some improved Maritzburg football now. The ball is worked down the left and Human looks for a switch for the run of Theron but the pass is a bit overhit.
BLOCK! Frosler moves well down the left and cuts the ball back. Du Preez controls and his shot is blocked but Matlou was in a better position if he had given his teammate a call.
Chiefs are pressing high and making Maritzburg kick it long. Ngezana is challenging well in the air so Amakhosi are in control as it stands.
Ndengane looks long from the back for the run of Samu but Ngezana reads the danger well for Chiefs.
WIDE! Chiefs are giving away some sloppy passes. Billiat loses the ball to Sam but the wingback strikes high and wide for Maritzburg.
More of the same as Ngezana dominates in the air. It breaks for Solomons who gets behind down the right but his cross is overhit for his teammates.
GOAL, KAIZER CHIEFS, DOLLY! Makume is closed down and misplaces a back pass. Goalkeeper Ndlovu tries to bail him out but the ball breaks for Dolly to finish smartly from 25 yards into the open net. Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 Maritzburg United.
CLOSE! Ritchie delivers a perfect corner for Maritzburg, Bvuma fails to claim and Macheke heads wide of goal on the stretch. That's a decent half-chance.
Matlou is down with a knock for Chiefs. Ritchie caught him with a late tackle and is lucky not to be carded.
YELLOW! It took a while but the referee decides that Ritchie does deserve a yellow.
Chiefs are looking very dangerous on the counter attack tonight but a loose pass sees a promising open fall away. Arthur Zwane is a bit frustrated on the sideline.
CROSSBAR! A long ball from Ndengane is knocked down to Samu and his volley hits the crossbar from distance. Bvuma may have had that covered had it been lower.
CHANCE! Lovely football now from Chiefs. Maart finds Matlou between the lines and he releases Solomons through on goal. King Ndlovu does well to make himself big and block the effort though. That should be 3-0.
Chiefs are taking plenty of long shots tonight. Maart sent one wide earlier and now Sithebe fires high over the bar.
The home team can't afford to get complacent here. Some over elaborate stuff between Bvuma and Kwinika nearly leads to an error in the box. In the end, the latter has to hack it clear.
Sithebe cuts down Human from the side The Chiefs man only gets a talking to, both from the unhappy opponent and the referee. No idea how that's not a yellow card.
We are edging towards half-time and Chiefs seem content with a 1-0 lead.
HALF TIME. Chiefs lead 2-0 and they deserve for the nature of their pressing especially. Du Preez and Dolly got the goals in the 4th and 24th minute respectively. Join us in 15 minutes for the second half. Kaizer Chiefs 2-0 Maritzburg United.

Chiefs have started this half really. Some quick leads to the ball being worked to Dolly for a short from range but it sails over the bar. Maritzburg's changes may take a while to have full effect.
YELLOW! Conco is booked for diving for Maritzburg. He went on a superb run down the right and beat Frosler but he collapses too easily when the defender makes minimal contact on him.
Foul: Sithebe gets wrong side and fouls substitute Kimvuidi. Freekick in a good position to the visitors.
SAVE! Ritchie takes the resulting freekick and draws a good low save out of Bvuma. That's good goalkeeper in front of Bafana Bafana coach Hugo Broos.
CLOSE! Some lovely football from Chiefs now. They have a long period of passes and possession. It's moved to Billiat who crosses for Du Preez to put it wide at the back post. The offside flag goes up belatedly so that would not have counted.
Conco is making an impression here from the bench for Maritzburg. He goes past Kwinika on the right and gets taken down for a freekick.
Ritchie delivers the forthcoming freekick but the referee blows his whistle from an infringement inside the box.
SAVE! Ngcobo gets the ball near the opposition box and strikes a shot which King Ndlovu pushes to safety.

Chiefs are working hard in midfield but some players look to be tiring. Could be see a few changes coming up?
Maritzburg work it well and get Sam free down the left. He crosses his delivery and puts it straight into the hands of the goalkeeper.
Ritchie comes forward from the back and flies into a challenge with his studs up. On another day, he would get a yellow for that but he's already been booked.
Chiefs are really slowing things down now. They clearly have one eye on their match against Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday.
YELLOW! Du Preez takes an absolute age over taking a corner and is carded.
SUBS: Dolly off for Sekgota and Blom replaces Sithebe. Some fresh legs for Amakhosi.
