Two surfers from Hermanus performed extremely well at the Jeffreys Bay’s KSSA Championships that took place from 21 to 24 October.
Nicky Currie, Media Coordinator for KSSA 2021 Jeffreys Bay, confirms Gigs Celliers came second in the kneeboarding finals, while Mark Jago took second place in the Masters division.
Said Lawrence Atkinson: “I was standing on the beach getting chased by the high tide, holding a cellphone and broadcasting the final of the South African Open Kneeboard Championships live on Facebook.
“Viewers from around the world were watching and commenting – their texts streaming down the left-hand on my screen. The action was wild.”
According to Currie, Celliers and Jago ventured off to the SA Championships at Magna Tubes in Jeffreys Bay. “We were welcomed by Seashells Luxury Apartments,” she said. “It was a rough couple of days for both Gigs and Mark, Gigs being a commentator as well as a competitor, Mark being the photographer and competitor.
“It was hard work all round, and we could not be prouder of Kneelos SA. This is Gigs’ brainchild and his heart’s project, which has grown to the next level. To organise a kneeboarding competition in Jeffreys Bay he definitely needs a pat on the back.”
