A 66-year-old man has died after being bitten by two pit bull terriers in Goedemoed in Durbanville at 13:00 today (Friday 5 November).

According to Durbanville police spokesperson Capt Marchell Rhode the dogs escaped from their yard in Hadeda Street.

The dogs then ran down the street before jumping against a gate further down the same street, forcing it open before attacking two smaller dogs inside that yard.

When the smaller dogs’ owner, a boarder at that house, tried to break up the fight, the pit bull terriers attacked him severely.

According to Rhode, the man was bitten on his feet, face and head.

TygerBurger was informed that the man then allegedly suffered a heart attack and died on the scene.

However, Rhode cannot confirm this as only the results of an autopsy will reveal the cause of death.

He says the lock on the gate of the house where the pit bull terrier was kept, was broken.

It is unclear how the dogs got out, he says.

An inquest docket into the death is being investigated, adding that the dogs will be removed by the SPCA.
