Each year, Crystal August gives back to the community.
This year the Genadendal-born beauty celebrates her crown birthday on 5 May, and launches her campaign “Restoring Hope with Chemo Care bags”.
“My crown birthday falls on 27 June,” August says, “and the initiative ‘Birthday of Hope (BOH)’ turns five, so I would like to do something special for cancer patients this year.
“Sometimes thoughtful little gifts make all the difference in the world when trying to get through a bad chemo day.”
August says her goal is to generate enough funds to fill the Chemo Care Bags with the necessary essentials that will assist cancer patients with easing the side effects of their chemotherapy treatment.
The campaign will be running until 23 June to ensure enough money is raised, so BOH can cater for each patient with a Chemo Care Bag.
The 2017 beneficiaries for the Chemo Care Bags are the cancer patients at Tygerberg Care Home.
“These patients leave their husbands, wives, children and families behind to stay at the home while receiving much needed cancer treatment,” August explained. “Sometimes they are away from family and friends for between six and 12 weeks at a time.
“Why the Chemo Care bag? When you’ve lived through the loss of a loved one, there are so many lessons learnt along the way.
“Therefore, I want to help by providing these care bags to aid patients suffering the side effects of chemotherapy and radiation.”
Anyone wishing to donate should feel free to contact August on 072 135 0274 or email firstname.lastname@example.org, also for more information on how to go about donating, as every bit will help.”
